The Wrong Way and Right Way (NON-Financially) to Plan for your Next Phase of Life

The Wrong Way and Right Way

A financial guru can tell you how to retire with money. That’s not me. I know nothing about where you should invest your cash. What I can tell you is the wrong way and right way to plan (non-financially) for your next phase of life.

Go ahead and download my free guide “How To Exit The 9-5 And Work From Where You Want.

Wrong Way: Wait until you can’t stand your current job, home, and life any longer, and then jump into the first thing that sounds like it might work to spice things up a bit.

Right Way: Start thinking about what you really like to do with your time. Think about your old dreams. What WAS or IS NOW important to you?

Wrong Way: Assume the only way to live and work is the same way you’ve been doing the living and working for the last decade. Keep the, “It’s all you know” mentality.

Right Way: Research online about how other people live and work. What do they do for their income? Where do they live? What is their lifestyle like? Are they living this lifestyle at your age? Determine if you would be interested in the same type of lifestyle. I wrote about taking that first step into a new lifestyle here. You can do it too!

Wrong Way: Assume that your age and all your acquired skills are not “good enough” to do much of anything other than what you’re currently doing. Continue to think you’re “too old” to learn anything new at this point.

Right Way: Realize that all your years of experience and knowledge could be extremely valuable to someone that doesn’t know what you know and that you can always learn more if needed.

Wrong Way:  Stay exactly where you are in work and in life until you die. The fear of the unknown is worse than dreading the days ahead. According to gisc.org, “Moving through significant shifts in life affords a rare opportunity: to consider new options, to take stock of accomplishments, and to develop an exciting future. However, as with all transitions, this is often a time fraught with uncertainty, reluctance to let go of the familiar, and questioning of what comes next. Participants will look at their life histories, and then individually and collectively look at values, wishes, and desires for the next step in their lives.”

Right Way:  Take hold of the fear of the unknown and accept it. There is always some fear in life. Think of past experiences that were fearful and now are fantastic: being a parent, getting married, starting a new job, leaving a bad job, leaving a bad marriage…yep, the list goes on and on.

The next phase of life can be … well, you don’t really know what your next phase of life will look like. However, you CAN put as much joy, passion, energy, and contentment into those days that fill your life as you can. Especially if your past has been lacking in these areas. My past was just a “blur” most of the time, look-back-at-your-life. There was not much joy or passion happening during my days.

If you’re ready to start planning for your next phase of life – or – if you’re already IN your next phase of life and realizing it’s not what you want it to be … I’m here to help you!

Let me show you ways to create a career for yourself online – working from home, the beach, or out of your RV. It’s a real career, your own business. This is NOT some pyramid scheme or stuffing envelope job. It’s a real career, created by you, to fit around the life you want.

I’m here to help you get started living the life YOU want – where YOU are in control of your hours and your goals – and where YOU are free to choose from where you will do that work.

I’m telling you – you’ll never regret learning the right way to start your next phase of life!
