Leave Your 9 to 5 And Increase Your Purpose In Life

Do you know your purpose in life?

I did.

And, I wanted to have more of it.

Introduction

This week I had to part with one of my dear assistants who helps me manage some of the work that I do.

She left because she found something that she was deeply passionate about and she feels like it will fulfill the purpose she has for her life.

I am going to miss her a lot, but her reason for leaving prompted me to think about my life’s purpose and why I do what I do.

I don’t often talk about having a bigger purpose or a “why”, but today I am going to tell you about mine.

My Purpose

I am a Christian.

I have been saved by Jesus Christ and He is everything to me.

My purpose is to live a life that revolves around Him.

If you are my age, you understand that your time is limited, you know how important it is to make the best use of your time so that you can look back at the end of your life and be satisfied knowing that you gave it your all.

Working in corporate America, I didn’t feel that my purpose was being done.

In fact, I was working out someone else’s purpose, not my own.

I want to fulfill my purpose by giving my life back to Jesus.

And part of that is giving of my time and the love that Christ has shown me to others in any way I can.

When I left the office, I found that I suddenly had time for mentoring young children with an organization called Kids Hope.

I could also have long lunches with people that were hurting and needed someone to love on them.

In fact, there was a whole list of other things that I never knew I liked to do because I didn’t have the time!

I have had a hard life, I have done bad things, and Jesus Christ has been my saving grace and mercy that I did not deserve.

And, because of that, I want to live my entire life for Him.

I try to always be real, authentic, loving, kind,  and helpful.

I try to be (to others) all the things that Jesus is to me.

That is my main goal in life. So in order to do that, I needed the time and the space to do it.

I needed freedom.

I could not fulfill my purpose in life while confined to my office from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM every day.

It was sucking the joy and happiness right out of me.

Why It Matters

A lot of people might think my purpose is ridiculous.

So, please know that I am not sharing this with you so that I can preach at you.

I am sharing this with you because I want to explain that my purpose in life is much bigger than just having the freedom to go to the beach whenever I want.

Even though I love my job and everything I do, having a bigger purpose is what keeps me going day after day.

You can do so much more working from home and being able to set your own hours and tasks.

You can have the freedom to fulfill your own purpose in life, no matter what that may be.

Your purpose is a big deal.

Jobs come and go, friendships come and go, but purpose lasts forever.

So let me ask you…

Why do you do what you do?

What is your purpose?
