Think you hate your job?
Been doing it “forever” so you’re not really sure?
Let’s look at the 7 Early Warning Signs of “Hating Your Job” and see if you could be at risk of this extremely unhealthy lifestyle:
- Sunday afternoons you slowly develop an upset stomach or a mild headache. Every once in a while, this could simply be a coincidence. Every Sunday? Not so much.
- Each weekday during your lunch hour, you leave the building only to have to drag yourself back in the door an hour later – full of dread.
- You look outside a window during the day and wonder what the beautiful sunshine would feel like right about now.
- If you hear your co-worker talk about her pet one more time, you’re going to scream.
- You only truly enjoy your days BEFORE and AFTER work – and weekends, of course. The 9am-5pm hours are just for “working” – no enjoyment.
- You find yourself “trying to look busy” because you’re good at what you do and finish everything early… and have little motivation to try for more.
- You are surprised if you hear someone say how happy they are in their career. You can’t imagine such a thing!
Yep, the above 7 items are definite warning signs. In fact, if you resonate with ANY of the numbers, I’d say you’re pretty close to hating your job!
I resonated with all 7 items (plus, 3 more ha), so I know exactly what I’m talking about. I was so miserable that I was making myself (and my family) physically sick.
There are things to do while you’re working even though you hate your job. Lifehack.org talks about “biding your time” while you’re still hating your job, 10-ways-to-bide-your-time-when-you-hate-your-job.
I wish I had realized what was happening much sooner than I did. But, no, I was pushed. You can read about that “shove out the door” here: I was pushed. However …
as soon as the job was over, I knew I’d never go back to something like that.
Now, let’s see how the 7 Early Warning Signs could be different signs. How about the” 7 Signs that you LOVE your career:”
- Sunday afternoons you are busy spending time with your family and friends. When you realize that work is “tomorrow,” the only feeling you have is that you’ve had a full weekend. Maybe you even came up with a few ideas for your job on Monday morning.
- Your weekly lunch hours are spent however you choose – whenever you choose – doing whatever you choose. Your lunch hour can be short or long – it’s up to you. In fact, you really don’t need a lunch hour – you can take a break and eat when the need arises.
- You look out the window and the sun is shining so … you go outside to finish some of your work for the day. The sun feels great on your skin!
- No co-worker talking about her pet– so you play your favorite music outside – while listening to the birds.
- You enjoy your time from 9am-5pm. You’re productive, creative, and energized. You’re good at what you do and love doing it.
- You never have to “look busy” – you ARE busy – creating a job or career you love. There is always work to be done.
- You are the one telling others how much you love your job.
You are the happy one at work and can’t imagine others not feeling the exact same way.
See? These signs are so very different than the warning signs.
You just need to realize that your warning signs are happening and then change it.
