Do You Want to Make a Difference In This World?

Do you want to make a difference in this world?

Do you hope that your life helps others?

In my opinion, Virtual Assistants have this ability every day.

“Top executives are committing suicide.”

Surprised you, didn’t I? However, stick with me on this one…

How to Make a Difference as a Virtual Assistant

Recently, there was an article on “Reuters.com” about top executives in Switzerland committing suicide from the pressure of leadership. Because this article was so interesting to me, I began to look for further information on those at the “top” of their careers falling to the “bottom” … of life.

I was so saddened to see that this topic is often discussed, but because determining factors as to why suicides are happening are difficult to determine statistically; no one knows for sure if there is a correlation between these suicides and the leadership positions.

Here’s what I DO KNOW (no statistics other than my first-hand knowledge being given here): Those in leadership (aka, Presidents, CEO’s, COO’s, Executive VP’s and all the other initialed positions) DO have a tremendous amount of pressure to succeed placed upon their shoulders.

As one who supports those CEO’s and Presidents, I see on a daily basis: the amount of work, the high stress, the impossible deadlines, the demand to hit projection numbers, the external pressures, (as well as internal pressures) – I see everything that goes along with that big paycheck.

As someone who longs to help others – make someone’s day a little more pleasant – or simply make a difference in this world, I am convinced that working as a Virtual Assistant is my perfect way of doing this!

As a Virtual Assistant, you are the ONE person who probably REALLY knows the work your CEO is doing and the amount of time they are giving to board members, staff, and family. You see their emails, you know their calendars, and you know how many hours of sleep they are NOT getting. You probably know more than their spouse about what it’s really like for them to “live their life” because you are the one “coordinating their life”.

As a Virtual Assistant, you have a real opportunity to make a difference in your client’s life.

How?

Steps You Can Take:

  1. Anytime I can handle something for them that I KNOW I can do exactly like they would, I remove that from their list.
  2. Anytime I have the chance to make them look good to others, I do it! Sometimes I do this by remembering special holidays and occasions for them, preparing and purchasing everything needed and letting them present as their own.
  3. I LISTEN to them. They often need someone that is “on their side.” Someone to bounce ideas off of. I do that. I can be that person that “always has their back”.
  4. I make sure while scheduling meetings on the calendar that I leave room to “breath” – eat lunch, get home to family at a decent time, and have preparation time in the mornings – anything to help them feel more in control of their days.
  5. Think through their days; relieve stress areas wherever you can. Most of the time, they will not even know you help them as much as you do … that makes it all that much greater!

I truly believe I am helping those with whom I work. I believe they would say the same.
